Hoofbeats Sanctuary
A place of hope, healing, and harmony
Hoofbeats Sanctuary are a not-for-profit equine therapy and trauma healing organisation on the Sunshine Coast, offering programs and one on one therapy to improve mental health through evidence-based, trauma-focused, animal-assisted and nature-guided programs, the programs are lead by practitioners that have 100% lived-experience, so they understand trauma and the effects of mental health intimately.
Hoofbeats Sanctuary believe that financial disadvantage should never be a barrier to accessing mental health support, they offer programs that are provided for free to financially disadvantaged women and girls to improve the emotional well-being of some of the most vulnerable members of our community.
The quantitative analysis found “a substantial improvement in the participants’ wellbeing post intervention, with a magnitude of difference that is exceptionally significant.” The qualitative analysis revealed “reduced thoughts of suicide, increased emotional resilience, improved self-regulation, greater confidence, enhanced coping skills, and better interpersonal relationships.” “Programs are providing highly impactful and enduring outcomes for participants”.
Hoofbeats Sanctuary do things differently to most equine therapy providers in that we purposefully prioritise both the physical and the the emotional welfare of the horses in our herd. We do not ‘use’ them in programs, but work alongside the herd – learning from, and deeply honouring, their experience, emotions and boundaries. This approach enables us to open our own awareness, through which we can discover, and honour, our own needs – just as horses do.
Hoofbeats Sanctuary are primarily a volunteer-based organisation with over 35 volunteers and receive no government funding at all and heavily rely on donations and business support and this is why our lil business is doing what we can to help raise awareness and funds that are needed to help Barb and her beautiful crew help support our local women and girls going through Traumatic and Mental Health Challenges when they really need it the most.
Hoofbeats Sanctuary are an essential part of the Sunshine Coast community and if you can support their organisation in any way it will go a long way to help them grow and evolve into a sanctuary they envision.
