Yep you read it right, weight loss can be enjoyable!!! Hooray :)
So we've been told that to lose weight we need to be on a strict diet that will deprive you of everything you love and you will need to train like a bitch to get results right!! Well that sounds like soooooo much fun!, Said nobody everrrrrr!!
We've been told that it's hard to lose weight, it's a struggle, it's painful and so much effort and restriction is involved, Why do we need to struggle? Firstly struggling or dreading a "diet" will cause you and your body STRESS, and believe it or not stress and weight loss do not go hand in hand, stress raising the cortisol hormone levels in your body and raised cortisol levels = fat storage which no one wants, So why do we cause ourselves and our bodies so much stress and turmoil with an unliveable diet or trying to stick with doing something you hate???
I can say with all honesty this weight loss journey has been enjoyable, for the most part anyways, sure I've had my up's and down's, I did the hokey pokey and I shook it all around and that's without out a doubt what a weight loss journey is all about :) But I can't say I haven't enjoyed the process.
This time I enjoyed the process because it was all about ME and my body. I for once wasn't trying to fit into a one size fits all diet, I learnt how food and my body works together, what foods agreed with me & I made lifestyle adjustments that worked for me. I really hate being told what to do and when to do it so I guess this is why I've never made friends with diets, and why they stressed me out so much, I wanted to be healthier and happier but without following rules or guidelines of a diet or a program that wouldn't work into my lifestyle, been there done that and I gained the kilos to prove it.
So how did I make my weight loss journey enjoyable? So glad you asked, I focused on what I enjoyed doing, rather than telling myself everyday you must follow this and do it that way blah blah blah I chose to just make better choices everyday and that was far more enjoyable than being on a strict program to see fast results. Same went with exercise, realistically I was almost 150kgs, exercise wasn't going to be enjoyable to begin with however it was a necessity, so I told myself just get there, it doesn't matter how long you exercise, what you do, how good you are at it or if others there are fitter and better, just get there, and every time I got there it became easier, it became fun and enjoyable and today I can honestly say it's by far my favourite time of the day, I love exercising and all of the amazing health benefits that come along with it.
So make your healthier lifestyle choices around YOU!! Your lifestyle, what you enjoy doing and have fun getting to know your healthier self, watch the kilos drop and your life change by doing what is going to work into your life. You know as do I that if you hate doing something it won't last, sure you might stick with it for a week or 2 or maybe a few more, but are those few weeks going to give you the results you desire and the enjoyment that health will bring? If not don't do it, don't start something that will fail you, get to know what works for you and your body and follow your own enjoyment and wisdom, you have everything you need within yourself to succeed.
